New Faces Join EMDC

Eastern Maine Development Corporation recently welcomed the following employees to our team and congratulated two who have taken on new roles in the organization.

Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC) is pleased to announce the addition of new faces at the 45-year-old organization and a change of roles within the organization for others.

Jerry Hayman joined EMDC in late July as Chief Financial Officer. Hayman comes to EMDC after 13 years with Eastern Maine Healthcare Systems Healthcare Charities where he served as the Director of Philanthropy Services. He will work from the 40 Harlow Street office overseeing the day to day operations of the accounting team responsible for management of program and grant funds.

Crystal Ellis and Kole McBreairty have also joined EMDC Accounting and Finance Department as Staff Accountant and Junior Accountant.

Ellis comes to EMDC with experience from both Berry Dunn’s tax accounting division and Miller Drug where she managed accounts receivable. At EMDC she takes on a number of responsibilities including Accounts Payable and general accounting functions of the organization.

McBreairty is a graduate of the University of Maine with a Bachelors degree in Accounting. He is also currently enrolled in the University’s MBA program.  Prior to joining EMDC, McBreairty was with Hawkes & Quirk CPA in Ellsworth. At EMDC he will oversee financial implementation and oversight of various programs and functions including those supported by grant funding as well as Accounts Receivable.

In addition to the new faces, current EMDC team members have also taken on new roles.

Melody Weeks has transitioned to the role of Program Manager for Maine’s Procurement and Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). Most recently, Weeks held the position of Program Manager for the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program, another EMDC implemented program.

In addition to three years with DBE, Weeks has served as the Executive Director of Associated Builders and Contractors in Augusta as well as on staff at the Greater Washington Board of Trade in Washington D.C.

Maine PTAC is part of a nationwide network of Procurement Technical Assistance Centers, or PTACs offering services such as: one-on-one counseling, training workshops, and networking opportunities; all designed to help prepare businesses to successfully compete for government market opportunities.

The program’s counselors work with Maine-based companies interested in selling their products and/or services to local, state or federal government agencies, either as prime contractors or subcontractors. Maine PTAC's experienced counselors provide a wide range of counseling services to assist their clients as they market to government agencies and government prime contractors.

Maine PTAC has trained counselors located throughout the state. Businesses interested in learning more about government contracting should contact the Maine PTAC location closest to them or contact EMDC at maineptac@emdc.org. Additional information is also available at www.maineptac.org

Seamus Higgins, a member of the EMDC staff since 2009 has moved into the role of Program Manager for the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Supportive Services (DBESS) program. The goal of the DBESS program is to ensure a "level playing field" in which DBEs can compete fairly for federally assisted  MaineDOT contracts.

A client working with DBE Supportive Services has access to a variety of resources which include marketing assistance, networking opportunities, computer and technical assistance, website development, business plan development, and workshops which provide practical, hands-on business management information.

DBESS is a resource for Maine-based businesses which have been certified as DBEs by the MaineDOT Civil Rights Office.

Eastern Maine Development Corporation (EMDC) is a private, non-profit organization established in 1967. The Corporation is located in Bangor, Maine and serves four Eastern Counties of Maine: Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis counties as well as portions of Waldo County.
