Business Development Specialist
The Business Development Specialist will provide services in the four-county region of Hancock, Penobscot, Piscataquis and Waldo counties through diverse regional-based partnerships with industries, businesses, communities, and other business/workforce development groups. The Specialist will promote relationships between stakeholders, and will work to integrate activities with the regional work by the Re-Engineering the Region economic development effort. This individual will also be responsible for working with the regional leadership to identify industries representing opportunities for growth, help to isolate gaps and barriers to industry growth, and serve to convene relevant industry stakeholders in discussions to foster regional opportunities. The Procurement Counselor is a staff member of the Maine Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). Specific responsibilities include training and one-on-one counseling with small business clients on becoming qualified bidders and successful contractors to federal, state, and local government agencies. This position requires strong client counseling skills and the ability to build professional relationships with government agencies and prime contractors. While experience in the government contracting marketplace is preferred, we welcome candidates with experience as a business counselor who possess a strong interest and aptitude for learning government contracting regulations and procedures and then teaching them to small businesses.
