EMTMA: Eastern Maine Transportation Management Association
The Eastern Maine Transportation Management Association (EMTMA), housed at EMDC, works to assist people in Eastern Maine's rural communities by enhancing existing transportation options and developing new ones.
The EMTMA's primary responsibilities include:
Education, promotion, and outreach for carpooling and ride sharing and connecting with local services in your community or region;
- Support of a website to provide comprehensive information and resources to assist residents in creating their own transportation solutions;
- Work with municipalities, employers, and businesses to encourage local and/or remote-access approaches to employment, service delivery, and shopping in an effort to reduce unnecessary travel and to reduce your transportation costs;
- Work with communities and regional partners to address expansion of service including regional bus routes, cell phone rideshare networks, park and ride lots, and outreach, education and assistance to employers, business groups, and the public;
The EMTMA is an advocacy group to help you find solutions to their transportation needs.
A critical piece of the EMTMA is its website. Residents can use it to access a web-based community bulletin board and clearinghouse for ridesharing, if they need a ride or want to provide a ride and share travel expenses for trips to school, work, medical or other appointments. The website also provides information about other alternatives to single car commuting. Visit www.GettingThereMaine.com
