About the Northern Maine AmeriCorps Collaborative
AmeriCorps members will be placed in local host sites throughout Penobscot, Piscataquis and Hancock Counties (such as educational institutions, municipalities, non-profits and faith-based organizations). Members will focus on creating economic opportunities for communities by working with individuals who are enrolled in programs at these host sites. Members will assist those individuals with soft skills training and other activities, in turn preparing them for long-term employment. Activities include: mock interviewing, resume writing, basic financial acumen, group facilitation skills, dress-for-success, contingency plan creation, and more. This AmeriCorps program is particularly focused on disconnected youth and connecting them to the community through nonprofit host site service.
Community Service Projects
EMDC's Northern Maine AmeriCorps Collaborative will lead a rich, fulfilling service experience and will create opportunities for all members to spend time at the other host sites in the program. There will be several community service projects over the summer months for members to participate in, including: assisting SNAP recipients at the local farmers' market, and volunteering to assist with the Bangor Folk Festival in August.
Become an AmeriCorps Member
Our team members will work hands-on with individuals in the region by helping them prepare to meet their long-term career goals. EMDC's Northern Maine AmeriCorps Collaborative members will receive orientation and training, which includes: the history of AmeriCorps, introduction to the world of nonprofits, community resources, and more. EMDC's AmeriCorps Collaborative works closely with outside trainers and experts to ensure that each member has the tools they need to effect change in our communities.
