Our Katahdin

Starting in 2015, EMDC began an initiative funded by EDA called Re-Engineering the Region.  This initiative, in response to the number of mill closures in the Penobscot Valley, had a goal of evaluating the region's economic opportunities.xperts in infrastructure/logistics, business and workforce development, innovation and entrepreneurial business development, local and state government, access to lending streams, and industry growth have been meeting to discuss emerging industry trends, barriers to economic growth, weak signals (potentially growing companies/industries that are very new), and opportunities.

Today, as part of the implementation phase of the Re-Engineering the Region initiative, we are pleased to announce a partnership with Our Katahdin to further the business and industry development efforts in the Katahdin Region.

Our Katahdin is a platform that brings ideas into action with a focus on the industries of Forestry/bio, Digital Economy, and Tourism.

Our Katahdin relies on the local leaders, foundations, partnerships and collaboration to achieve success.   And, they soon recognized that need to have "boots on the ground" to build their capacity.   That's where EMDC came in. "Today we are please to announce a collaboration with EMDC and Our Katahdin, to have a full time Economic Development Specialist, Josh McIntyre, supporting the Katahdin region.  We have quite a road to plow ahead of us, and having a member like Josh on our team with the skills and experience full time, is critical to help accelerate economic progress in the Katahdin region," says Mike Seile, Vice President of Our Katahdin.   Watch the announcement coverage from WABI-tv.
