BANGOR – Eastern Maine Development Corporation will be offering a seven-week academy for young Mainers looking for job opportunities.

The “Young Mainer’s Workforce Academy” has been redesigned to provide virtual instructional sessions, networking and dynamic training in specific fields.

The program offers paid training for people ages 16 to 24.

EMDC president Lee Umphrey said the goal is to get people prepared with the proper tools for a successful career.

“The environment has changed, the economy has changed, but what you need to be successful has not,” Umphrey said. “You need to learn, you need to know, and more importantly you need to do, and as an organization, we are an organization of action and we’re trying to relay that to young people especially.”

Umphrey said EMDC is looking forward to being part of the solution in reopening the economy and rebuilding the communities.

The program will begin on June 18.
